The Hisbah Commission of Yobe State on Thursday destroyed Hundreds of cartons of alcoholic beverages confiscated during a recent raid at Maina Lodge in Damaturu, the state capital. This was part of its ongoing crackdown on the sale and consumption of alcohol in the state.

The exercise carried out by security operatives in the state capital Damaturu, was led by the Chairman of Yobe State Hisbah Commission, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, government officials, and members of the public.

According to Dr. Yahuza, the confiscated alcohol — comprising various brands and types — was destroyed in accordance with the state’s religious and legal prohibitions against the consumption, distribution, and sale of intoxicants.

He asserted that the consumption, sale, and distribution of alcohol remain prohibited under Yobe State laws and religious principles.

The Hisbah Chairman commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for his unwavering support for the Commission’s operations, crediting the governor’s leadership for empowering the agency to enforce the state’s moral codes effectively.

Dr. Yahuza urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or immoral activities, including the illegal sale or possession of alcohol, to the appropriate authorities for swift intervention.

The Yobe State Hisbah Commission reiterated its resolve to uphold religious values, promote public morality, and ensure that state laws are respected across all communities.

In a separate development reported by Sahara Reporters, the Local Government Hisbah Unit in Garin Alkali, Bursari Local Government Area, also carried out the destruction of cartons of alcohol. This, officials say, underscores the Commission’s zero-tolerance policy on alcohol across all parts of the state.
