In a demonstration of its unwavering commitment to professionalism and integrity, the Nigerian Army (NA) has concluded its investigation into the alleged theft of armoured cables at the Dangote Refinery premises on 14th April 2024. The investigation, conducted in collaboration with the refinery management, has led to decisive action against Corporal Innocent Joseph and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani.
In a statement released by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, it was revealed that the two soldiers were found to have abandoned their duty post and were in unauthorized possession of the materials in question. Consequently, they were both charged with Failure to Perform Military Duties and Other Civil Offences under the Armed Forces Act CAP A20, punishable by military law.
Following a summary trial where evidence was presented and the accused were given the opportunity to defend themselves, Joseph and Gani were found guilty of the charges brought against them. As a result, they have been dismissed from the Nigerian Army with immediate effect and handed over to the appropriate authorities for further prosecution.
This decisive action underscores the NA’s zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and criminality within its ranks, reaffirming its commitment to upholding institutional integrity and reputation. The NA emphasizes its dedication to maintaining discipline, accountability, and professionalism at all levels, as it continues to fulfill its duty of safeguarding national security and promoting peace and stability across the nation.
The public is urged to continue supporting the efforts of the Nigerian Army in its mission to protect and serve the nation with honor and dignity.
